About Dieter Possum

Hello Friend!

Why the hell would you run the Blackmore's Full Marathon, at 76, again? (Worse still after an injury last year!)

The truth is: Ideas are grand, but it's only deeds that count. Wayside Chapel at Kings Cross is simply excellent in what they do: give respect, offer alternatives and allow individuals to make changes in their lives with amazing outcomes; especially for some people who need it most.

I'll run for you, AGAIN, please help make it count.

Thank You.

About The Wayside Chapel

Wayside Chapel has provided unconditional love, care and support for people on and around the streets of Kings Cross since 1964.

Today, under the banner of love over hate, Wayside Chapel creates a community where there is no ‘us and them’ by breaking down the barriers of judgement and providing a safe place where people from all walks of life are welcome just to ‘be’.

Wayside Chapel draws people out of social isolation and invites them into the healing place of community. People marginalised by homelessness, mental health issues and substance abuse can turn to Wayside for compassion, tolerance and support.

Our community services centres in both Kings Cross and Bondi, mental health program, twilight team, two community cafes and our Aboriginal Program are all designed to ensure the most disadvantaged members of our community have access to essential health, welfare, social and recreational services.

Each year, thousands of people visit Wayside for assistance in gaining equitable access to essential health, welfare and related services.

In an average week, Wayside provided, amongst other services, 497 showers, 352 changes of clothing, 303 hours of support to people with a long-term mental health issue, and 49 social and recreational activities for the whole community to participate in. People purchased over 1,459 low cost items in our café, and 296 members of the community visited Wayside to learn more about our work.

Overall, everyone who came in seeking assistance or even just stopped by for a chat were welcomed into a place where they can find company and acceptance.
