About jeff smart

I am walking from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela this September to raise funds for Parkinson’s Disease (PD) research. This research is critical if we are to delay, stop and possibly find a cure for PD. There are more than 82,000 Australians and their family and friends that are counting on this research. My GP was genuinely surprised that I was diagnosed with PD given I was only 51 but perhaps he shouldn’t have been. Of the 32 Australians who are diagnosed everyday with PD, 1 in 5 are less than 50 years old. For those of us in the 50-54 year old group, the occurrence of PD is about 1 in 500, though for those older than 75 the occurrence increases to less than 1 in 40. Given these statistics I am not surprised that most Australians I meet know someone who has PD. If you don’t have PD today, any donation may be an investment in your own future. 100% of every dollar donated to Shake It Up Australia will be used for research. Better still, many research projects are also supported dollar for dollar from the Michael J Fox Foundation –effectively doubling the impact of each donation. All donations are tax deductible. I am aware that many people would like to walk the Camino but for a variety of reasons are not able to. If you are interested, I am offering to carry with me either a photo or sealed intention as I journey to Santiago de Compostela . A template can be accessed at To follow my journey please like my Facebook page –“Jeff ’s Camino for Parkinson’s” . You can help too, by donating to my page. Any amount you can give makes a difference! You can also support me by encouraging others to get involved too. Please email the link to my page to your friends and family, or share it on social media. Thank you for your generosity and support -- it means a lot to me. Together we can help Shake It Up Australia for Parkinson’s Research create the world we want to see. Gracias Jeff

Shake It Up Australia for Parkinson’s Research

Shake It Up Australia Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2011 and in partnership with The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) promotes and funds Parkinson’s disease research in Australia aimed at better treatments and ultimately a cure.

To date, the foundation together with our partners at The Michael J. Fox Foundation have co-funded over $6 Million into Australian Parkinson's research and are the largest non-government funders across multiple research institutes.

The foundation was established by Clyde Campbell, a father of three and business owner who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2009 at the age of 44. Clyde set out to find out as much as he could about the disease and determine what he could do in a practical sense to assist. His search led him to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research in the United States and the remarkable work they do to fund medical research targeted at finding better treatments on the path to a cure for Parkinson’s disease.
The partnership builds upon a strong base of promising Parkinson’s research in Australia and allows both organisations to maximise the impact of capital raised from the Australian Parkinson’s community to accelerate better treatments on the path to a cure. Under the partnership, all funds raised by Shake It Up  Australia Foundation and our supporters are directed toward research efforts in Australia.  We also guarantee that 100% of your donation is directed into research, this is made possible by our founding directors covering all overhead and administration costs of the foundation.

As the country’s leader in strategic Parkinson’s research funding we are excited about the talent we have in our Australian institutes and the prospect that their work will take us closer to a cure.
