Social September encourages us all to press pause in September- disconnect from our digital lives and reconnect with each other, and ourselves.
The aim is to create spaces for face-to-face social connection, promoting positive mental health and well-being.
Why disconnect to reconnect?
To promote mental health, wellbeing, and positive personal interactions.
Over the past two decades, digital technology has enabled us to connect with each other in ways we never imagined. Today, most of us use technology on a daily basis to connect with our world and the people in it.
But have we forgotten what it means to truly connect with one another and ourselves?
Social September aims to encourage us to once again experience the benefits of good ol’ face-to-face connection with the people in your lives.
By participating in Social September, you’ll not only be promoting the social and emotional health wellbeing of yourself and those you’re connecting with, but you’ll also be raising much-needed funds for The Reach Foundation.
All funds raised will support The Reach Foundation - a charity who creates amazing spaces where young people can better connect with themselves and each other, to help fulfill their potential.
All Australians are encouraged to participate in one or two key actions throughout September:
• Disconnect – a personal challenge to reduce use of a favourite technology
• Reconnect – host/attend a face to face fundraising event to connect
NB: We love using technology and social media (particularly in the lead up to Social September!) but also believe that real connections in the real world remain invaluable.
What impact can we make?
All funds raised for The Reach Foundation will enable more young Australians to participate in programs that promote connection and build self-belief. Independent research shows that “Reach programs help young people improve self-esteem and gain a greater sense of control over their lives”.
Each year, Reach works with over 40,000 young people. Reach programs are provided to all young people at low or no-cost. The average cost to provide a specialist program is $80 per participant.
It's Reach's dream for all young Australians to have the support and self-belief to fulfil their potential and dare to dream.
You can help Reach achieve this dream for an investment of just $80!
