Why we are supporting Rainbow Club Australia

Our Story

Our team is "Magic Rainbows" and we are 7 children with a disability who are members of Rainbow Club. We will be swimming 10k in the 2018 Murray Rose Malabar Magic Ocean Swim on Sunday 18 February 2018. We will be joined by 3 parent/teachers. Please support us. Our names are Nicholas Parker Maroubra Rainbow Club Michael Slevin Newington College Rainbow Club Will McHutchinson Hornsby Rainbow Club Aidan Susanto Maroubra Rainbow Club Audrey Boen Maroubra Rainbow CLub Nick Gallardo Warriewood Rainbow Club Ciaran Lund Warringah Rainbow Club We will be accompanied by teachers and parents from Rainbow Club including Kylie Freeman Warringah Rainbow Club We think Rainbow Club is the best! We get an individualised lesson each weekend of the school term from a fully qualified Swim Teacher. We are more comfortable with the individual lessons because mainstream lessons can be difficult and confronting for us. Our needs are greater and the individual lessons help our focus and our progress. The teachers at Rainbow Club are great! They are all qualified and all give up time on weekends to teach us. We depend on them. We are now in training to do our best and be part of the Malabar Magic Ocean Swim. It is a huge event in the Rainbow Club Calendar and we are excited to be representing the club and competing against many important and experienced swimmers. We have two challenges - to complete our part of the 10k swim and to raise $10,000 for Rainbow Club. Thank you for your generosity and support!

About Murray Rose Malabar Magic Ocean Swim 2018

The 2018 Malabar Magic Ocean Swim was a great celebration of ocean swimming and Rainbow Club children, showing disability does not mean inability.

Malabar is a sheltered bay in Sydney’s east. The Ocean Swim starts and finishes on Malabar Beach and the course is indicated by marker buoys. The swim is suitable for first-time ocean swimmers who have adequately trained for this event.

'The Magic' is a featured event on the OceanSwims calendar. The event offers a two swim program, perfect for beginners or more experienced swimmers - a 1km course which starts at 9.00am and a more challenging 2.4km starting at 10.00am.

Now into its 10th year, it's a great family fun day out with prizes, entertainment, refreshments and more!

The Magic' is all about enjoying a swim and fundraising for Rainbow Club.

About Rainbow Club Australia

Helping children with a disability learn to swim

The Malabar Magic is the key annual fundraising event for Rainbow Club Australia, a registered non-profit charity raising funds and supporting children with a disability learning to swim and be safe in the water.

Rainbow Club Australia's seventeen clubs in NSW provide swimming lessons for children with a disability.

They operate thanks to many generous supporters and fundraisers, all lessons are both individualised and heavily subsidised.

The Rainbow Club Australia believes that learning to swim is a right for all children, including those with a disability, and recognise that concentrated and individual focus helps those with a disability acquire the skills needed to stay safe in an aquatic environment.
