Why I am supporting The Kids' Cancer Project

My Story

On 29th October, I am taking on all 105kms of Fitz's Challenge. Yes the MAMIL will undertake another ride. This one is 15k longer and more climbing in it. (1660m v 1059m). It's a pretty tough route near Canberra. I've been trg but it's still going to be a major effort for me....and for Jane as she has to hang around and wait for me to finish... Your not sponsoring her to read a book all day though! I don't want to put a specific story here as I don't think it's needed. As a father of 3 boys whose life has not been affected by childhood cancer I am very grateful. Some are not that lucky. My challenge is short. The challenge for kids with cancer may go on for a long time and are far more difficult than mine. Please donate if you can today. Even a few $$ help. Thank you for your support. Cheers Rog

About 2017 Fitz’s Challenge

About Fitz’s Challenge

Fitz’s Challenge is renowned for the amount of challenging, but achievable climbing required within each distance.

Any human powered cycle that is legal to be ridden on ACT roads has been approved by event organiser’s to be used in Fitz’s Challenge. This includes handcycles, tandems, recumbent bikes, tricycles, unicycles and kick bikes.

Fitz’s Challenge has established enough credibility within the cycling community that the 210km and 255km cycling events have been approved as official Audax Alpine Classic qualification rides.

The more advanced distances require participants to ride up Fitz’s Hill as part of their course, which is how the event originally received its name.

Since 2009, The Kids’ Cancer Project has been Fitz’s Challenge official charity partner. Cyclists participating in this event have raised more than $333,000 to date for childhood cancer research.

About my cause: The Kids' Cancer Project

About The Kids’ Cancer Project
The Kids’ Cancer Project is an independent national charity supporting childhood cancer research.
Kids get different types of cancer to adults. Research is the key to discovering more targeted and effective ways to help them.
Since 1993, thanks to strong community support, the charity has contributed tens of millions of dollars to scientific research projects to help children with many types of cancer.
Founder, Col Reynolds OAM, has a steely focus to make a difference to the lives of kids living with the disease. It all started on an ordinary day in the early 1990s when Col found himself driving his empty tourist coach past the Children’s Hospital in Camperdown, Sydney. After stopping to let two youngsters with bald heads cross the road, he parked his vehicle and went into the hospital on the spur of the moment. Touched by the spirit of everyone he met that day, Col made it his personal mission to help kids with cancer in any way he could.
Very early in his quest, Col learned that the only way to improve outcomes for these children is through advances in medical research.
