Heart for Hannah

This photo was taken yesterday (28th August 2017) 6 weeks after Hannah received a VAD (Ventricle Assist Device).

This was implanted at The Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne and is a mechanical pump that supports her heart function and blood flow through the body due to her weakening heart.

Hannah was diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy (heart failure) and was sent via air ambulance from her home town Armidale (on the 5th of April 2017) to The Royal Children's Hospital Westmead.

After three and a half months of intense medical care Hannah was flown to Melbourne to receive the life saving VAD which was attached to the left ventricle of her heart.

Hannah now has a driveline coming out of her stomach where it is connected to a controller in the bag which is powered by battery and AC/DC adapter (as seen in her photo). The VAD will stay implanted until she is stable enough to receive the gift of a new heart through a transplant.
