About Help Build McCrae House

There is a critical lack of suitable housing and support options for society’s most vulnerable citizens, those with an intellectual disability, throughout the Mornington Peninsula area.

At present there are over 400 people with disability registered with the government needing supported accommodation immediately.

Frankston Peninsula Carers Inc (FPC) is a charitable organization, incorporated in 2007, with 111 members who are mostly elderly parent / carers, who, with supporters, have come together to find solutions for this crisis.

Frankston Peninsula Carers Inc (FPC) plan to build a 6 bedroom house, for 6 children with intellectual disability, with 24/7 live-in care in McCrae, Victoria.

The total cost will be $1.6m . The FPC need to raise $100,000 more to complete the project.

This heart breaking letter was written by one of our mothers just recently and explains why we need to pursue our goal about building more supported accommodation.

“This is what I wrote the night before I relinquished Jack...” ……..Jack turns 21 this year...I made a 'baby'...I made a 'child'..but I couldn't make a 'man'...I didn't get the ingredients right. Tomorrow I push him 'out of the nest'...but he can't fly...I know he can't fly..so who is going to catch him? Who else will endure slaps and kicks while trying to change a nappy from a "Terrible Two" in a 5ft 9" body. Who else will stand firm and cop hits and scratches while insisting he has a bath every day. Who else will persevere through the tantrums to cut his hair...shave his face...brush his teeth...because he can do none of this himself- I couldn't teach him to. I failed the most important task as a parent.."Give your child independence". Who will explain to him why I have to 'abandon' him…'relinquish' him , so that he can get used to surviving the day without a kiss and a cuddle from mum! ………………… To my 30 yr old self I would say.. "Thank the doctors for saving your baby- then ask where they will be in 21 years... when he is still in pieces...and now so am I".

Please donate to the Building of McCrae House.

Your generosity is deeply appreciated.

About Frankston/Peninsula Carers Inc.

Frankston/Peninsula Carers Inc. (FPC) was formed as a result of the unacceptable crisis in accommodation options and support for adults with intellectual disability and their aging carers both on the Mornington Peninsula and nationally.

Apart from the 24/7 emotional and physical drain, the overwhelming concern of these carers is 'what will happen to my child when I die'.

FPC was incorporated in 2007 without any funding, but received grateful assistance in its infancy from the Mornington Peninsula Shire and Frankston City Councils.

The Charity was fortunate and continues to be managed by a dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer committee. Our aim is to raise money to build housing for adults with intellectual disability.
