Three and half years ago, I was diagnosed with Acute promyelocytic leukaemia (APML), a rare sub-type of acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). This type of leukaemia is so rare that on average there is only 3 people in South Australia and 100 people in Australia, diagnosed with this cancer each year and all of the testing is done in Sydney.
This came totally out of left field and being relatively young and having two young children, there was no alternative but to see this through. I have been extremely fortunate in being able to be treated and have had a successful outcome. These little challenges are beyond each individuals control, and for me, it was about how do I manage each day with ensuring that mentally, I kept moving in the right direction.
Now I move every day in the right direction and since finishing chemotherapy not quite a year ago, I can add my body and voice to causes such as this, so I am taking part in The Clock Cancer Challenge to raise much needed funds for Fight Cancer Foundation. Their work is really important, and I want to do what I can to help. But there is only so much I can do on my own.
You can help too, by donating to my page. Any amount you can give makes a difference!
You can also support me by encouraging others to get involved, too. Please email the link to my page to your friends and family, or share it on social media.
Thank you for your generosity and support -- it means a lot to me. Together we can help Fight Cancer Foundation create the world we want to see.
