You can read this. Imagine if you couldn't...
An astonishing 1 in 7 kids who leave school today are unable to read and write well*. Yes you read that correctly - 1 in 7. We at Dymocks Children's Charities are determined to change that, and we hope you can help us.
Dymocks Children's Charities is an Australia-wide tax-deductible charity providing high quality books to pre-primary and primary schools in priority locations. We have over 1,000 kids who are waiting to join one of our unique literacy support programs. Kids like Joe. Joe is 6yrs old and lives in Regional Victoria. He has to travel 100kms to attend school and his library is the only place he can access any reading material. With your help our literacy support programs can help Joe, and other kids like him.
Book Bank - provides kids in primary schools in priority locations new books of their choice so they can own and share books and cultivate a love of reading.
Library Regeneration - restocks school libraries where there is insufficient school funding or following natural disasters.
Duck Libraries - contain 50 age appropriate books for pre school kids at locations in priority areas around Australia. It has a fully themed bookcase and is supplemented with an extra 15 books in the 2nd year.
These programs can change the trajectory of a childs' life. As Jodi Ridgway a teacher at Blaxcell St Public School commented;
"The Dymocks Book Bank program has completely changed my Stage 3 students attitude towards reading. They love selecting their own books and can't wait for the day they arrive. As a teacher, it's great to see the books go home, knowing that students are continuing to consolidate their reading skills at home."
In the past financial year we helped 18,463 kids at 124 schools get 33,449 books but there is so much more to be done.
Can you help us help kids this tax time?
