About Blackmores Sydney Running Festival 2019

You can run and make a difference to Cystic Fibrosis (CF) which primarily affects the lungs and digestive system. You can run by yourself, with your family and friends, or as a team. Fancy dress is a real hit with this run! All funds raised go into research and advocacy.

Through research and advocacy CFA is committed to improving clinical practice and patient outcomes with the aim of extending life expectancy from 37 to 50 years by 2025.

Our advocacy work raises the profile of cystic fibrosis nationally and ensures government appreciates the challenges facing people with CF. These include key issues such as drug affordability and availability, infection control, gene testing and access to the best medical and allied health services.

CFA is passionate about research and our aim is to improve medical, allied health, psychosocial and quality of life outcomes; fund innovative, novel concepts and early stage research work; and attract the brightest young minds to cystic fibrosis medicine and research.

Our quest to secure funding also ensures that our clinical improvement assets such as the Data Registry, Peer Reviews and Standards of Care continue to thrive. These programs have critically informed and dramatically improved the way CF is treated.

I hope you continue to support our efforts to improve the lives of those with CF.

About Cystic Fibrosis Australia

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) primarily affects the lungs and digestive system because of a malfunction in the exocrine system, responsible for producing saliva, sweat, tears and mucus.

There is currently no cure. People with CF develop an abnormal amount of excessively thick and sticky mucus within the lungs, airways and the digestive system. The mucus causes impairment of the digestive functions of the pancreas and traps bacteria in the lungs resulting in recurrent infections which lead to irreversible damage. Lung failure is the major cause of death for someone with CF.

We advocate on behalf of our members to gain better access to services, obtain information or resources. On a larger scale we have been involved in several national campaigns to increase the rights of all people with cystic fibrosis.
