Why I am supporting Cure Cancer Australia

My Story

Having seen the effects of cancer on family and friends, I am taking part in Project 444.4 to raise much needed funds for Cure Cancer Australia. Their work is really important, and I want to do what I can to help. But there is only so much I can do on my own. You can help too, by donating to my page. Any amount you can give makes a difference! You can also support me by encouraging others to get involved, too. Please email the link to my page to your friends and family, or share it on social media. Thank you for your generosity and support -- it means a lot to me. Together we can help Cure Cancer Australia create the world we want to see.

About my team: Project 444.4

Project444.4 Every four minutes someone in Australia is diagnosed with cancer. Only one in ten of those diagnosed get sufficient exercise during and after their treatment. Research shows that every one of those patients would benefit from exercise, including improved mood and quality of life. Reference: Cancer Council Australia https://www.cancer.org.au/news/blog/treatment/every-cancer-patient-should-be-prescribed-exercise-medicine.html Project 444.4 is about encouraging people with and without cancer to get moving, and raise money for cancer research in the process. Hi my name is Ashley Druve, I’m a 45 year old married father of three young children and have stage IV NET cancer. I was diagnosed in December 2015 and I have been undergoing treatments ever since. I am one of the very lucky ones, as I am still alive. Project 444.4 will run over 28 days during February 2019 and was developed as a way of giving back to the so many who have helped me in my cancer journey. Sadly, every four minutes of everyday someone in Australia (where I live) is diagnosed with this horrible disease. Reference: Cancer Australia https://canceraustralia.gov.au/affected-cancer/what-cancer/cancer-australia-statistics So why donate to research? During the process of my treatment, I have received the benefits of experimental treatments, innovative scans and have been part of many research studies which have pushed ahead treatment for cancer patients more broadly. The tools used to allow my doctors to diagnose me, the treatments they prescribed for me, and indeed their training, all began with research, and research never stops. I could never repay all those individuals who have helped me, however Project 444.4 is one way I can give back, and help fuel further research that could help you, your loved ones, or those yet to come. In February 2018, I ran just 2.3km - that is absolutely all I could manage as cancer was kicking my butt. So I have made the commitment to do all I can to run this coming February 2019 more than 444.4kms. But I need your help! I want you involved!! To reach my goals for Project 444.4 the following needs to happen: I want 1,000 people to run, jog, walk, wheel, skate, scooter, crawl, ride, swim, paddle, move by any un-motorised means, 444.4 metres. Then please send me a pic of you or them and I will post it to @project444.4 where Everyday heroes are recognised. Your involvement will make a difference in four ways: 1. Exercise will directly benefit you 2. Donating will help the discovery of cancer cures 3. Your support will help me make 444.4kms 4. Thinking about those with cancer and how difficult it can be to do everyday tasks, let alone doing exercise, will create better understanding and compassion. I personally will try with everything I have to run beyond 444.4kms. My journey can be followed on Instagram @runnershabit and we will, as a group, raise as much money as possible for important cancer research. Thank you – Brisbane Obesity Clinic for taking care of my nutrition consults Let’s make a difference this February!! Please let me know how you can help email project444feb@gmail.com

About my cause: Cure Cancer Australia

Cure Cancer Australia is dedicated to funding crucial cancer research from Australia’s brightest emerging minds. We believe early-career researchers who offer new ideas and challenging perspectives are the key to advancing the fight against ALL types of cancer.
The funding landscape for early-career researchers is extremely competitive. Cure Cancer Australia provides the vital early-career funding that our emerging research innovators so desperately need. Without investment in their potentially life-saving research, there won't be a future pipeline for Australian cancer research.
To date, Cure Cancer Australia has invested close to $30 million to support more than 300 scientists and provide close to 500 research grants. Many of our alumni are now amongst the leaders in cancer research both in Australia and around the world.
We won't cure cancer without research and we cannot cure cancer without you. Help us to make this the last generation to die from cancer.
