After finding out about the devastating earthquake in the Heart of the Highlands of Papua New Guinea and subsequent aftershocks that struck in February, I instantly felt compelled to do something to help my PNG “wontoks”(One-talks). I will be attempting to run the O’Keefe Callenge, a full 42km marathon in April to raise funds for Care Australia to assist in rebuilding the communities that are most challenged.
These people now have no food as the gardens the nourish them were ripped away in the landslides, no drinking water as the rivers that bring life were diverted by the earthquake and no shelter as their houses were either destroyed or the entire village has to be relocated due the eminent danger of more earthquakes. They are lacking not just 1 basic necessity of life, but all 3!
Many people I know and am proud to call my friends have lost everything or worse, and the stories of the hardships I have heard has broken my heart. I will be pushing myself to the limit to try restore some life to the wonderful and kind people who have suffered the most.
Even the slightest help you can give will have profound effects by supplying food and water to those starving and giving them the chance to rebuild their homes and communities.
I am raising much needed funds for CARE Australia. Their work is really important, and I want to do what I can to help. But there is only so much I can do on my own.
You can help too, by donating to my page. Any amount you can give makes a difference! You can also support me by encouraging others to get involved too. Please email the link to my page to your friends and family, or share it on social media.
Thank you for your generosity and support -- it means a lot to me and even more to my PNG brothers and sisters. Together we can help CARE Australia save lives!
