My Story

Take a moment and hug your kidneys. Turns out, Australian kidneys often don't get enough attention, with death from kidney disease being higher than some common cancers (see below). Something else ridiculous? Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, compared with the general population, are four times more likely to have chronic kidney disease and develop end stage kidney disease. And if they live rural or remote? 20 times. My kidneys make it possible for me to run my first marathon this year at the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival 2018 to raise much needed funds for Kidney Health Australia. I need your kidneys to help too! Any donation to my page helps! You can also support me by encouraging others to get involved, too. Please email the link to my page to your friends and family, or share it on social media. Thank you for your generosity and support -- it means a lot to me. Together we can show Australia we aren't kid(ney)ng about kidney disease.

About my cause: Kidney Health Australia

Each year more Australians die with kidney related disease than breast cancer, prostate cancer and even road deaths. Sadly, 1 in 3 Australians is at increased risk of kidney disease and an estimated 1.7 million Australians over the age of 25 already have at least one clinical sign of existing kidney disease.

Kidney Health Australia, formerly known as the Australian Kidney Foundation, is a national health care charity with a vision to save and improve the lives of Australians affected by kidney disease.

Kidney Health Australia aims to;

• Educate the general public about the risk factors of kidney disease and train health professionals to help spread this message.

• Advocate on behalf of all kidney patients and the tireless carers who support those living with kidney disease.

• Research for a cure. Kidney Health Australia is the largest non-government funder of kidney disease research in Australia.

• Support Australians affected by kidney disease through a range of resources and programs.

Kidney Health Australia is independent of Governments and indebted to the community for their support.
