My Story

In September, I am taking part in Blackmores Sydney Running Festival 2017 to challenge myself AND more importantly raise much needed funds for Shake It Up Australia for Parkinson’s Research. Like all other charities and foundations, it is a very worthy cause but this one is especially close to me. My Dad has Parkinson's disease, a fact he decided to keep within the family for a couple of years but now we are able to share his story. Dad is lucky, he will just 'live with it'. Parkinson's has only changed a few aspects of his life and abilities. He is still our same ol' Dad but we wish that he never got it at all. Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition that affects 70,000 Australians. Currently, there is no known cause or cure which is pretty crazy! I want to help change that fact by fundraising for Shake it Up Australia. I am certain that you have been asked HEAPS on Facebook and email etc. for donations this year but if you could take the time to read my story and even give $5 bucks towards this cause, I would be so grateful and next time I see you reaching out- I will do the same. Oh and I know it is after tax time but you can totally get excited for 2018 tax! Or if like me, you are strapped for cash, please share this with anyone and everyone on all social media platforms or simply harass them with emails :) Thank you for your generosity and support - it really means a lot to me. Together we can help Shake It Up Australia for Parkinson’s Research!

About my cause: Shake It Up Australia for Parkinson’s Research

Shake It Up Australia Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2011 and in partnership with The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) promotes and funds Parkinson’s disease research in Australia aimed at better treatments and ultimately a cure.

To date, the foundation together with our partners at The Michael J. Fox Foundation have co-funded over $6 Million into Australian Parkinson's research and are the largest non-government funders across multiple research institutes.

The foundation was established by Clyde Campbell, a father of three and business owner who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2009 at the age of 44. Clyde set out to find out as much as he could about the disease and determine what he could do in a practical sense to assist. His search led him to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research in the United States and the remarkable work they do to fund medical research targeted at finding better treatments on the path to a cure for Parkinson’s disease.
The partnership builds upon a strong base of promising Parkinson’s research in Australia and allows both organisations to maximise the impact of capital raised from the Australian Parkinson’s community to accelerate better treatments on the path to a cure. Under the partnership, all funds raised by Shake It Up  Australia Foundation and our supporters are directed toward research efforts in Australia.  We also guarantee that 100% of your donation is directed into research, this is made possible by our founding directors covering all overhead and administration costs of the foundation.

As the country’s leader in strategic Parkinson’s research funding we are excited about the talent we have in our Australian institutes and the prospect that their work will take us closer to a cure.
