This September I'm taking part in the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival 2017 and helping to raise much needed funds for our charity, Leukemia Foundation.
As some of you may know, I deferred my entry in 2016 on doctor’s recommendation due to illness, so now I’m ready to give it another shot this year ;)
What Am I Doing?
My day job:
As a researcher in the Centre for Cancer Research at the Westmead Institute of Medical Research, my daily work aims to better understand the fundamental mechanisms at a cellular level behind leukemia, and thus the advancement of the projects in my lab is dependent on funding from charities such as the Leukemia Foundation.
My physical training:
I have been training hard after work to prepare for the big day. This includes going to the gym five days a week, and taking on a bikram yoga or Xtend Barre class for the first time in my life as a challenge! Personally, I'm aiming to better keep my current PB of 142 min 56 sec from my first ever half-marathon in 2015!
So far in 2017, I have completed the following:
8 km Mothers Day Classic
10 km Harbour Run
14 km City to Surf
This race will be my final one for this year :)
My charity work:
In April this year, I was honoured to be a guest speaker at a community charity event and we successfully fundraised over $2500 in one afternoon for Leukemia Foundation over a lavender-themed high tea in Westmead. I’m hoping to add another $500 and more to this amount, and here’s where you can help us out!
What Can You Do?
It’s really simple: you can support the Leukemia Foundation by making a secure online donation. Please follow the instructions on this page to help us reach our goal of $500!
Thank you for making a difference in the countless Australians lives touched by blood cancers, and your generosity means a lot!
