I was pretty unsure of what to do to mark the first anniversary of Mal’s death. When I found out that the Blackmore’s Bridge Run was that day, I knew it would be the perfect way to celebrate my life with him. He loved to support me and our family at Parkrun and City2Surf, even though he couldn’t run himself and the weather was not always that pleasant as he waited at the finish line to not only us on, but EVERYBODY running. He’d often be at St Peters parkrun in Sydney Park on a Saturday morning until the last runner had come through, telling them how great they were, even after big hits of chemo the day before. Often he'd have to be supported to get back to the car, but this was important to him. So I’ve signed up to do the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival 10km Bridge Run on Sunday 17 September and will try to raise a bit of money for charity in the process. I have decided to support beyondblue which works to support the estimated 3 million Australians dealing with depression and anxiety. These are issues that have had significant and challenging impact upon our home as well as many friends and family, so it is well worth supporting this organization, me thinks. I set a modest target of $600 to start with and we blitzed it! Feels great to see so many people coming out in support of this important cause.
