In the spirit of giving back and paying it forward, and with much encouragement from some very special people I’m planning my next fund raising adventure. I am taking part in Journey Through Nepal to raise much needed funds for Breast Cancer Network Australia. Their work is really important, and I want to do what I can to help. But there is only so much I can do on my own. The focus for me doing this is in recognition of what helped my family and I to keep smiling in amongst the fear, heartache and tears with cancer diagnosis. A very close friend of mine told me she wanted me to take this challenge on for her. She’s a mum, a daughter, a sister as well as an amazing friend. She has been diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. There is currently no cure. This means she will continue with chemotherapy and radiotherapy and their side effects for the rest of her life. Her name is Karyn Wagner. She apologized to me when she was initially diagnosed with cancer. She said she now understood what I was going through, and she’s sorry she wasn’t more supportive at the time. Thank god more people don’t really understand. But along with the suffering, struggle and awakening to the heart ache and pain people are experiencing in this new often frightening world, there comes a new respect for what others can endure, and the strength and togetherness that you knowingly feel looking into the eyes of the fellow patient or carer. My family and I have experienced an overwhelming amount of support. You see, it’s the support that is so very crucial to keep you going at those points when you think you cant. This is why I want to support and fundraise for BCNA. In their mission statement they explain ‘We support and empower all Australians with breast cancer diagnosis through our services, resources and programs… We provide high quality information … that can empower participation in decisions about treatment and care… We advocate… to set the best possible treatment and care standards… We strive to help Australians affected by breast cancer to feel less alone’ BCNA 2018 My target is $4000, but if I fundraise over that amount, BCNA have agreed that I can donate it directly to my friend Karyn. Treatment and associated costs are expensive not to mention the ongoing financial impact of travel when living in a rural area and being taken away from earning income. No amount of fund raising will contribute to my travel costs. All money raised up to the amount of $4000 will go directly towards BCNA and every dollar over will go directly to Karyn. You can help too, by donating to my page. Any amount you can give makes a difference! You can also support me by encouraging others to get involved, too. Please email the link to my page to your friends and family, or share it on social media. Thank you for your generosity and support -- it means a lot to me. Together we can help Breast Cancer Network Australia create the world we want to see.
