Why I am supporting Breast Cancer Network Australia

My Story

In May 2012 I felt great, my family was healthy, my life was blessed. One month later I found a lump in my left breast, within one week I was diagnosed with breast cancer. All those that knew me were shocked - tears flowed. My husband held me tight, together we would get through this. My parents changed their lives to help us. One week after diagnosis, I had my first of two surgeries. I cut my hair short in anticipation of losing it with six months of chemotherapy. Then 6 weeks of daily radiation therapy. Throughout my breast cancer journey I have relied upon the wealth of information that is the BCNA. From reading "My Journey Information Guide" cover to cover multiple times, to seeking support on how to tell our then 3 & 5 year old boys, to using the online network. The BCNA is a hugely valuable resource for Australian women and their families. Now six years later I am truly one of the luckily ones. Although I am on hormone therapy, I am happy, healthy and still here to tell my story. I am taking part in Journey Through Nepal to raise much needed funds for Breast Cancer Network Australia. Please support me and BCNA by donating to my page. Any amount you can give makes a difference! You can also support me by encouraging others to get involved, too. Please email the link to my page to your friends and family, or share it on social media. Thank you for your generosity and support -- it means a lot to me. Together we can help Breast Cancer Network Australia create the world we want to see.

About Journey Through Nepal

This adventure takes you on a journey through Nepal’s mountainous terrain and beautiful countryside. You will get a glimpse of life as a monk, attend peaceful Buddhist ceremonies and learn meditation techniques at the Neydo Monastery, where you will have the opportunity to stay one night.

With stunning Himalayan views, high passes, traditional teahouses, tiny hamlets, prayer flags and hot springs, the Annapurna region is among the best trekking destinations in the world.

You will discover the history and culture of Nepal’s colourful and chaotic capital city and explore some of the incredible sites on our city tour.

Best of all, by taking on this challenge you will help BCNA support Australians affected by breast cancer.

About my cause: Breast Cancer Network Australia

Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) works to ensure that Australians affected by breast cancer receive the very best support, information, treatment and care appropriate to their individual needs.

BCNA is the peak national organisation for Australians affected by breast cancer, and consists of a network of more than 120,000 members and 300 Member Groups. More than 90 per cent of our members have had a diagnosis of breast cancer, and the remaining members have had a personal experience with breast cancer through a family member or friend.

We are represented by the Pink Lady silhouette, symbolic of our focus on the women diagnosed with breast cancer and all those around her.
